December has always been one of my very favorite months of the year. I love the promise it holds as we draw closer to the celebration of Christ’s birth, I love the decorations, I love the colors, I love the inviting smells in the kitchen, I love writing and receiving Christmas cards, and I love the fun and laughter that comes with a full house.
But as wonderful as all that is, I know it can be pretty exhausting, too. So that’s why I thought I’d share one of my favorite recipes for those cold winter days/nights when you need to slow things down a bit and regroup. It’s for my daughter’s oh-so-yummy white chocolate hot chocolate—a perfect treat to sip on while escaping into the pages of a brand new Amish-based tale (or two).
First, the recipe…
White Chocolate Hot Chocolate
Ingredients (for 2 cups):
~ 2 cups milk
~ 4 oz white chocolate baking bars
~ 1 tsp vanilla
~ 1/8 tsp peppermint extract (optional)
~ whipped cream
Combine milk and baking bars in saucepan and cook over medium low heat, stirring constantly.
When dissolved and heated to desired temp, add vanilla (and peppermint if desired). Top with whipped cream!
And now, the new Amish-based tale (or two)…
Just Plain Murder, the sixth book in my popular Amish Mystery series is now available! Criminal Element says, “Laura Bradford’s mastery and genuine appreciation of contemporary Amish culture made this book a delight to read.”
The Amish Sweet Shop, a multi-author anthology I’m in with fellow authors Emma Miller and Mary Ellis, will release on Dec. 18th. Each of the three stories in the book take place in the days leading up to and including Valentine’s Day and are linked to one another by the same sweet shop in a small Lancaster community. Library Journal has this to stay about The Amish Sweet Shop: “This exquisitely written trio of delectable Amish confections from some of the genre’s favorite authors are the perfect Valentine’s Day treat.”
